Quotes on Planning

Good plans shape good decisions. That's why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true.   -- Lester R. Bittel, The Nine Master Keys of Management

If anything is certain, it is that change is certain. The world we are planning for today will not exist in this form tomorrow.  -- Philip Crosby, Reflections on Quality

Men often oppose a thing merely because they have had no agency in planning it, or because it may have been planned by those whom they dislike.   -- Alexander Hamilton (1755 - 1804)

In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.   -- Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890 - 1969)

Dear Eagles,

If your December is anything like mine, you turn around and it’s gone. I know probably at this point you are finishing up those patients who want to get everything done before year end, having holiday parties and getting ready for a few days off to celebrate the season. Christmas and Hanukah are times of hope. Hope for our world and hope for the future. We have much to be thankful for and I encourage you to take time during this season to be thankful.

Our article this month is Lesson #4 - Surround yourself with People that Commit to Your Vision. It’s appropriate that this topic comes up at the cusp of the year. As you prepare for 2008, plan to share your vision, tell the truth about your team and challenge people around you to rise to the occasion. When we think of having our team be on board with our vision, it is equally important that our business partners are aligned with us as well. By partners, I mean your accountant, lawyer, lender, and yes your Coach as well. Taking the time to make sure they understand not only your goals, but your vision for your practice/company can make a difference in your confidence with the decisions you make. Having all the important players on your team thinking from an aligned vision ensures you have the most creative and best choices available.

So as you wrap up your year, I hope you will find the lessons in this newsletter valuable. Thank you for the difference you are making and the lives you touch.

Happy Holidays and to a Miraculous 2008!

Suzanne

Suzanne BlackHailey’s 7 Leadership Lessons

Lesson #4:  Surround Yourself with People that Commit to Your Vision

By:  Suzanne Black; President

Athletes know it.  Presidents know it. Musicians know it.

They know that their success, to a large part, depends upon surrounding themselves with people who commit to their vision.  Without a great quarterback, the running back can’t get the touchdowns. Without great advisors, the president’s policies will fail. Without backup singers, the musician’s music won’t sound as sweet.

Hailey’s Leadership Lesson #4 is to surround yourself with people that commit to your vision.  Why is this important?  There are several reasons.

In keeping with the theme of the month it is time to review 2007 and plan for 2008!

One of my mentors once told "If you can measure it, you can move it"! so, the process begins with reviewing both your plan for 2007, and what you actually produced.  How well did you do?  Are you where you expected to be?

Next, using what has happened in the past as a guide, what do you intend to produce in 2008?  How many new patients are you going to see each month?  What will the productivity be, and how will your expenses go?
