"Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride

Valuing Valentines |
|
|
One
of my favorite holidays is fast approaching. Valentines Day. I like
to celebrate Valentines Month since one day is never enough for me.
Recently I was in Windsor, Ontario leading a private Hands On Boot Kamp for
several Canadian Teams. One of the games we play in that course is that
every time you give an “I Appreciate” note you also give and receive tickets for
a drawing for prizes. I don’t know what we said to this group this time –
we had more I Appreciate notes flying than ever before. Everyone in
the room got prizes and we all had a good time giving and receiving. I was
awakened again to the power of expressing our appreciation for each other and
how much just a few words can do to heal, mend and strengthen our partnerships.
I invite each of you to create February as Valentines Month. If you
need more “I Appreciate Notes – call us at 877-632-6224 – we’ll send them out.
Brainstorm with your team regarding showing appreciation to each other as well
as to your patients, families and friends.
We are very excited about our first ever Couples Retreat, that Paula Harriss
and Mike Black will be leading on March 30 and 31st just outside of Knoxville,
TN at the Dancing Bear Lodge
www.dancingbearlodge.com The Couples Retreat is a product
of our new division of programs - The Power For Life. This new
division is committed to taking the principles that we teach in dentistry to
businesses through sales training, executive coaching and speaking engagements.

The Power for Life COUPLES RETREAT
by Paula Harriss
Have you every wished your mate could experience Boot Kamp because you know
it would have an important impact on your relationship? Well, YOUR WISH IS MY
COMMAND!
The Coaching Center Team received repeat requests over the years to provide
an opportunity for couples to receive Boot Kamp information as it relates to
relationships. Recently, at one of our Leadership Boot Kamps for doctors only,
this request resurfaced. So, it’s our pleasure to offer The Power for Life
Couples Retreat. (The Power for Life is a branch of The Coaching Center that
takes us back to our roots of reaching out past the dental market with the Boot
Kamp skills.)
Wouldn’t it be fun to take the DiSC profile as a couple? What about learning
how to handle tough conversations successfully in your relationship? Do you
really know how to fight? Guys, do you know what she wants? Ladies, do you
really know what he wants? We can help you apply the Boot Kamp skills to your
relationships, taking them MUCH deeper than ever before.
If you haven’t seen the independent film The Secret, I recommend you
see it. The principles presented in the film are very consistent with all the
teachings on which Walter based our Dental Boot Kamp. Mike Black, who is my
co-leader in the program, brings a wealth of information and training from Joe
Vitale, one of the guru’s of The Secret. Mike has worked with Joe
for the last two years coaching clients from all over the world in creating
Miracles in their lives and in their relationships. In addition, Mike
brings his own unique approach to “causing the success of your relationship”
from the male perspective. Mike and I have created new materials which we
will reveal in the program, and we promise they will help strengthen your
relationships.
As we know, personal growth precedes professional growth.
I will always be thankful to Dr. McKinney, Suzanne Black and Dental Boot Kamp
for the investment they made in my personal growth. It was tough being a
single mom with 5 daughters, working in a dental office and making ends meet.
What I learned in those early years with Dental Boot Kamp has changed my life.
As many of you know, Think and Grow Rich, was one of Walter’s
favorite books and now one of mine. In the book, Napoleon Hill refers to
the 31 reasons people fail. A struggling personal relationship is stated
as one of the key reasons people fail. It is my intention and promise that
the Couples Retreat will provide the atmosphere and opportunity to impact your
personal relationships in a lasting and evolving manner.

The Five Love Languages for Valentine’s Day
by Suzanne Black
In Dental Boot Kamp we refer to Dr. Gary Chapman’s book, The Five Love
Languages, in which he discusses the fact that each of us has a primary
“language” of receiving appreciation and expressions of love that means the most
to us. If you haven’t read it, it’s worth picking up. The languages
he refers to are:
Words of Encouragement |
Receiving Gifts
|
|
Quality Time |
Physical Touch |
|
Acts of Service |
|
To reveal our primary love language, Dr. Chapman suggests we recall times
when we have felt most hurt or unloved. For years in my marriage I felt
hurt that my husband, Mike, never seemed to pick out the right thing for my
birthday or Christmas. The gift was either another electrical appliance or
didn’t seem right for me. That got me thinking about the times I selected
presents for Mike, like maybe a tie. Maybe he was thinking it was just
another tie when all he really wanted was an electrical appliance. But to
me the tie was special, and I selected it just for Mike. And then I
realized. The truth of the matter is that his gift represents him really
thinking about me and choosing something he thinks is special for me. It is the
act of thinking about me that really shows his love.
When I think about what is most important to me, words of encouragement seem
the most powerful. So, I got to thinking about this Valentine’s Day and
what could be done to recognize spouses, loved ones, children and our team.
My team and I put together these ideas for you. We hope you like them and
they help you show the people important to you just how much they are loved.
Appreciation and love open the door to the heart.
