Dear Eagles,
March is living up to it's reputation here in the Texas
hill country. Stormy, cold, rainy the beginning of the
month, beautiful spring weather now. We should have a
gorgeous bluebonnet season this year! I expect them to
explode over the landscape this week or next.
This month we wrap up our series on Haliey's 7
Leadership Lessons with an article on Measuring the
Results. Years ago, I learned from one of my mentors
that if we go for the number or result we will surely
fail However, we have to know the numbers as a
measurement of whether the service we are providing is
working or not. I know I find myself struggling with
what seems to be effective, what I THINK works, and what
the measurements tell me. "If you can measure it, you
can move it!" one of my teachers once told me. So I do
look at the numbers a lot! And I have to remember that
an emotional response to the numbers isn’t going to get
me anywhere. It is my job to read the levers and dials
and correct my course. That is what I hope you get from
this article.
We have a second article from our own Laura Lopez.
Laura was a dental professional long before joining us
about 5 years ago. She reminds us to do a bit of Spring
Cleaning both in our relationships, our thoughts as well
as our offices and homes.
The last article I must give credit to Mike Black. He
found this wonderful troubadour on the web who provided
the article on The Seven Effective Habits of Highly
Dramatic People!! It will give you a laugh and it is a
great team meeting.
Spring is a busy time for us here at The Coaching
Center. We are excited about the
Dental Boot Kamp (Level I and Masters) in Chicago
April 10th and 11th. May 15th & 16th we have the
Leadership Boot Kamp in Denver. June 5th and 6th is
our 2nd ever
Speakers Skills Summit here in Austin.
We also now have our
Coaching Center Store on the Web Site! Order Next
Appointment Forms, DiSC profiles, Patient Research Forms
over the Web! Check back regularly as we add items, and
let me know if there is something you would like to see
there.
Please be in touch!

Hailey’s
7 Leadership Lessons
Lesson #7:
Follow Up Daily, Measure and Ask: Are We Meeting Our Goals?
In
Lesson #1 we talked about the importance of creating a vision.
Lessons 2-6 all focus on what it takes to reach that vision.
Lesson #7, our final lesson, completes the circle of what is
necessary to make the vision a reality. It is about measuring
our progress.
Some of us are better than others of us about setting daily
goals and checking our progress. Some of us get up in the
morning and make a to-do list. We monitor our lists throughout
the day, checking off completed items as we go. At the end of
they day, we know what we have done and what we still need to
do.
Others of us are more random and spontaneous. We don’t like
feeling limited by a list. We want the freedom to change
direction, be impulsive, and explore multiple options. For us,
lists are boring and constraining.

IS IT TIME FOR SPRING CLEANING?
Laura Lopez-
Senior
National
Client
Advisor.
If
you are like me, it is almost always time for a good “Spring
Cleaning”! My desk, the office, the house, closets, windows,
I can always find a place that I have not been paying
attention to, and has become unruly. I am sure that is true
for all of us as winter is finding is way in the history
books.
I
invite you to consider another kind of “Spring Cleaning",
however. I am referring to those attitudes, habits of mind,
negative thought patterns we tend to find ourselves falling
into without noticing it. We put up with habits of behavior,
or gossip, or excuses that in our better moments we would
address, and certainly do not like to admit. In moments of
clarity I can see that often (not always) the physical
environment that needs cleaning is a reflection of my own
habits of mind.
Many
of you have had an opportunity to experience "Chunking the
Junk" session in the Dental Boot Kamp and know the theory.
If you take the "Junk" out of your head and your heart and
write in on a piece of paper, then throw it at the
presenters in the front of the room, I mean the large
labeled trash can, then you rid yourself of the "Junk",
the
negative assessments about ourselves that keep us from truly
reaching for the stars.
Do we
really "rid ourselves of the junk"? If you are like most of
us, we tend to put it in the attic just in case we might
need to bring it out again. We put lots of things in our
attic and those things will collect dust and cobwebs. Is now
the time to really clean things out once and for all... to
the curb for the trash service to take away. Are you
ready to "Spring Clean" your minds and hearts? Not only do
you rid yourselves of the stuff that needs to be cleared
out, but sometimes you will find great "Treasures” stored up
there as well, the treasures are the things that you know
are nuggets that you could use in our everyday routine of
life.
Spring has officially started, and as the new grass begins
to turn green, the trees will have leaves once again... and
best of all the beauty of colors will be sprayed all over in
the form of flowers. This is really a great way to take a
look and see if there is anything within that needs to be
removed, to make room for the new things that life will send
your way.
This
event can start with you, and could become a topic for your
practices team meeting.

Try to control them.
For
those of you who prefer to keep it complex, here are seven
habits to develop that will help you go deeper into your
